Moving from the bay to a few miles inland has given us the opportunity to explore more neighborhoods. This week we took a trip to the San Diego State University area for lunch and ate at Pita Pit. This week our photography studio’s crew consisted of Bronson, Jared, Courtney and Eder.
Pita Pit has a very simple concept. You start with pita bread, white or wheat, and then you figure out what meat combination and what vegetables you want to put in your pita bread. On their menu they have Chicken Caesar, Chicken Crave, Club, Philly Steak, Gyro, Turkey, Roast Beef, and even vegi options like falafel and hummus.
Bronson went with the chicken, Jared went with a BLT combo, Courtney went with the Falafel and I went with the Gyro. The best part of the meal was that it was very fresh. It was also very cool that you could pick your own vegetables and pile them on. The portion sizes were also very good, they could fit a lot of stuff in those pita breads. The only downside is that we felt that we did not get as good of a deal as if we went to a place like subway where you could dine with similar freshness and quality for a few less dollars.
We all agreed that it was good, however we would not go out of our way to return to that place. If it was convenient we would eat lunch there once again.

Jared gave Bronson’s truck a little love tap.
One of my favorite things in life is cars. Not that I actually have a great one but I certainly appreciate them. My brother made the wise decision a couple years ago of buying a car that has always A. Done really well in comparos in car magazines – (usually top 10 every year for example) and B. Always turned people on with its looks.
So naturally, it deserves to be photographed! We drove out Julian around Christmas time in the morning when the roads were nice and quiet…it was beautiful out there! Typically black is one of the more difficult colors to shoot in the automotive world but I think these are pretty smokin’!

Ok, it should be obvious to most of our readers by now. We love Mexican food! For the second week in a row we found ourselves at a Mexican restaurant for Bauman Lunch. Once again we did not have to travel far, we visited El Zarape on Adams Avenue. We had a nice size group with Jared, Bronson, Jacob, Christin (Jacob’s fiancée), Courtney (our intern), my self and our special guest Jackie, who made a donation to the Thirst Relief International Mentor Auction and won Bronson as her mentor.
El Zarape is located in Normal Heights, just a few minutes from Kensington. It stands out on the corner, with its adobe colored building and its interesting metal sign. When you enter the restaurant you have to take a minute to look around at all the small details around the restaurant. There are little cultural figurines, sculptures and paintings throughout the whole restaurant.
The restaurant has a very relaxed vibe, maybe a bit too relaxed though because it took a long time to take our order. However, at the same time it was nice to sit down for a little while and chat it up, without any food in front of us right away. Their plates are all around $12 for their dinner menu, but for lunch they offer a hand full of $5 options. Some of us went with the chorizo con carne quesadillas, while others went with the carne asada plate or the bean and cheese burrito. They all came with a side of rice and beans.
For $5 it was a really great deal. The food was also very good. I think we will be returning to El Zarape again in the near future.

Over the years, we have started to do more and more photography for local companies and businesses that have events here in San Diego – Here are a few highlights from recent events and also a couple headshots we’ve done for other local companies. Often with headshots, you are limited to having to go to a studio but though we have a great studio space, we often bring the studio to you! We can do mobile portraits anywhere in the county

This year I have become more and more convinced that a cover photo on a Leather Craftsmen is really an amazing way to make your album stand out. I think having a photo on the cover really gives the album viewer eye candy from the start. These two albums are just two examples of some of the amazing albums with cover photos that I have seen come through the studio. If you have a wedding album in you future I would recommend dressing it up with a cover photo

With the great weather all year round in San Diego, I am always surprised that we don’t see more winter weddings. Angela and Lucas chose December 5th as their wedding day and it could not have been a nicer day for a wedding day. The day started off with a little bit of overcast, but quickly cleared up and the sun shined through giving us great light for some really cool photos.
Since Angela was a Point Loma Nazarene University alumni, they chose the Ellipse Chapel on campus as their ceremony location. PLNU has some really interesting trees and flowers, and the buildings all seem to have unique details which made it perfect for some wedding party photos and some of the couple alone. The reception was held just a a few miles away at the Admiral Kidd Club on a military base.
Angela and Lucas really like cows, and it could be seen by the cow theme of their wedding. The ring bearer carried a stuffed cow down the isle with the rings and at the reception all of the tables where named after different types of cows. I never new there were so many types of cows! To me the most impressive looking one was the Texas longhorn.
After the reception the couple said farewell to their guests and got in to their Corvette Stingray and drove off in style. They did not drive off too far to soon though, because we made a quick stop across from the military base at Liberty Station and spent some more time with them alone taking some more great photos. Creating photos of the couple alone is one of my favorite parts of a wedding day, so I was very happy when they told me that they wanted to spend some more time taking photos after the reception.

This week we continued exploring our new neighborhood and visited Ponce’s Mexican Restaurant on Adams Avenue. Eight of us went to lunch this week, including one of Bronson’s engaged couples, John and Stacy who are getting married on June 18th of this year.
The restaurant is only a block away from our photography studio in Kensington, so we were excited that it might be a good restaurant that we can make regular trips to. It was good vibes from the get go. When you walk through the door you could feel a very lively and comfortable atmosphere. As we waited to be seated, a fresh batch of corn tortilla chips and salsa was placed on the table.
At the top of their specialty menu, Ponce’s lists chicken enchiladas. So when we saw them on their lunch special menu, most of us decided to put their specialty to the test. Their chicken enchilada came with a scoop of sour cream and a side of rice and beans. It was a very good portion and very delicious. For me the test for a Mexican restaurant is usually their rice and beans, most places, just can’t get them right. Not Ponce’s, their rice and beans were very flavorful and fresh as if they has just finished cooking and not sitting in the kitchen all day on the warmer.
Their lunch specials range from $6.95-$7.95 and come with plenty of food. We all left there very satisfied and look forward to returning for lunch soon.
On the way back to the studio Bronson took an opportunity to do a mini shoot with John and Stacy!
I wonder who will stop by this next Wednesday to visit us and join us for lunch…

This last Sunday we finally got to do our end of the year party and it was awesome! It was a night filled with great friends, food, games and lots of laughs.
The company party for our studio is usually around the holidays, however with last December was much busier than most Decembers with destination weddings and holidays back to back. Then after the holidays Jared and Sara got married and went on a honeymoon. After Jared’s return, we began our move to our new studio. So after all that we finally found a day that we could take time to celebrate, Valentines Day.
Jared, Sara and Joe really took time to plan an excellent party. Walking through the door, we were greeted with champagne and there were some excellent appetizers on the table. Joe made bacon wrapped shrimp, a spicy artichoke cheese dip, and some excellent home made guacamole. After spending some time chatting it up we began to play the first game of the night, Bauman Jeopardy. The game was played by everyone that did not work at the studio, friends and loved ones, and it was all about Bauman Studio trivia. “This person has a European vibe and is known to wear white Italian shoes in to the studio”. “This person has said ‘I’m not going to lie, saying that I am good in bed is an understatement.” “This person gets a haircut every other week.” “This person clears his throat more than a horse with tuberculosis.” Who is…?
We then moved on to a delicious diner cooked by Joe. It included a salad, a twice-baked baked potato, and a very delicious tri-tip. We walked away from the table feeling very satisfied and began with the awards ceremony. The Baumies are done in tradition very much like the Dundies from The Office, funny and awkward.
We ended the night out with with a Rockband session and closed it out to Reptilla by the Strokes.
